{"id":16339,"date":"2013-06-14T11:15:00","date_gmt":"2013-06-14T11:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=8a4b350df8043d5fc06b498ef342ffa4"},"modified":"2013-06-14T11:15:00","modified_gmt":"2013-06-14T11:15:00","slug":"news-story-extremism-has-no-place-in-open-and-tolerant-britain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=16339","title":{"rendered":"News story: Extremism has no place in &#8216;open and tolerant&#8217; Britain"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Home Secretary Theresa May praised the work of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association at an event marking its hundredth year in the UK. <\/p>\n<p>Speaking in the House of Commons on Tuesday (11 June), the Home Secretary said the organisation\u2019s philosophy of \u2018Love for All and Hatred for None\u2019 was exemplified by its condemnation of the horrific murder of Drummer Lee Rigby in Woolwich. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"extremism\">Extremism<\/h2>\n<p>She said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Extremism cannot and will not be part of Britain so long as we remain an open and tolerant society.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I have no doubt that together we shall defeat the extremists. You have shown, and continue to show, that the only effective way of persuading them out of their poisonous convictions is peaceful dialogue.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Also speaking at the event was the Ahmadiyya Muslim\u2019s spritiual leader, His Holiness Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, and Energy Secretary Ed Davey. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Home Secretary Theresa May speaks at the House of Commons event to mark the Ahmadiyaa Muslim Association's hundredth year in the UK\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/12386\/HS_at_Ahmadiyaa_960x640.jpg\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>His Holiness Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I want to praise the great qualities of open-heartedness and tolerance exhibited by the British people, for the way in which they have accepted immigrants as members of the country and allowed them to become a part of the fabric of British society.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">If a person\u2019s heart desires then they are free to accept Islam, but if their heart does not, then they are free to reject it. Therefore, Islam is completely against compulsion and extremism; rather, it advocates peace and harmony at all levels of society.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"ahmadiyaa\">Ahmadiyaa<\/h3>\n<p>The Ahmadiyya Muslim community was founded in Punjab, India in 1889 by Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad who said Islam\u2019s true strength lay in its powerful message of peace. He also taught that Jihad was in essence an inner struggle for peace not a violent war as had been popularised by extremists. <\/p>\n<p>Its first missionary arrived in the UK in 1913.
