{"id":21645,"date":"2013-07-24T12:53:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-24T12:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=7aec54477c3f4034b42a5a2b0a74f0f6"},"modified":"2013-07-24T12:53:00","modified_gmt":"2013-07-24T12:53:00","slug":"press-release-farming-resilience-summit-preparing-for-business-risks-in-farming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=21645","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Farming Resilience Summit: Preparing for business risks in farming"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>An action plan to help farmers prepare for risks to their businesses was agreed by major banks, farming charities and farming representatives at a summit convened by Environment Secretary Owen Paterson last week.<\/p>\n<p>The first farming resilience summit was held earlier this year following the bad weather that placed particular financial pressures on many of Britain\u2019s farmers. <\/p>\n<p>The experts in banking, farming, insurance and business convened again last week to agree new action to improve farmers\u2019 resilience in the face of future challenges. <\/p>\n<p>Representatives from organisations including HSBC, the National Farmers\u2019 Union and the Prince\u2019s Countryside Fund will work with government to deliver the following ten-point plan:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>identify which farmers may be most at risk, and understand the causes of cash flow difficulties<\/li>\n<li>maintain regular insight into at-risk farmers over the long term<\/li>\n<li>support the recommendation in the Future of Farming Review for an industry event to develop practical advice that can help farmers retire from or exit the industry<\/li>\n<li>consider the longer term shape and options for CAP payments, post 2020, to support greater resilience<\/li>\n<li>explore insurance schemes and other emergency funding mechanisms<\/li>\n<li>encourage collaboration between farmers to help manage risk<\/li>\n<li>develop local advice groups for farmers to share information and help each other strengthen their businesses<\/li>\n<li>develop and advocate \u20185 tools of resilience\u2019, setting out the minimum practices expected for a resilient agricultural business<\/li>\n<li>develop tailored weather warnings and information for farmers<\/li>\n<li>meet again at a third summit to report back on progress and confirm next steps<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Farming resilience working groups will continue to be held over the summer as the coalition of farmers, banks, charities and government refines and starts to implement the recommendations.
