{"id":21738,"date":"2013-07-25T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-25T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=49b6dd87e7c08aae268e24f13f1ab1c9"},"modified":"2013-07-25T10:30:00","modified_gmt":"2013-07-25T10:30:00","slug":"press-release-new-non-executive-directors-to-join-the-medicines-and-healthcare-products-regulatory-agency-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=21738","title":{"rendered":"Press release: New Non-Executive Directors to join the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency board"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Department of Health has today announced that three new Non-Executive Directors will join the board of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).<\/p>\n<p>MHRA regulates medicines and medical devices to ensure that they work and are acceptably safe for patients. <\/p>\n<p>The three Non-Executive Directors are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Dame Valerie Beral, Director of the Cancer Epidemiology Unit at the University of Oxford;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Professor Alexander Markham, Professor of Medicine at the University of Leeds and;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Professor David Webb, Christison Professor of Therapeutics and Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Edinburgh.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>MHRA incorporates the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD), a world-class e-health research service and the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NISBC), the world leader in assuring the standards of biological medicines. <\/p>\n<h4 id=\"lord-howe-health-minister-said\">Lord Howe, Health Minister, said:<\/h4>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I am pleased to appoint Dame Valerie Beral, Professor Alexander Markham and Professor David Webb as Non-Executive Directors of the MHRA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">They bring a wealth of experience to our board and will play a key role in the leadership of the agency in its vital role, improving and protecting public health.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 id=\"sir-gordon-duff-chairman-of-the-mhra-said\">Sir Gordon Duff, Chairman of the MHRA, said:<\/h4>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I\u2019m delighted that Dame Valerie, Sir Alex and Professor Webb have accepted appointments as Non-Executive Directors of the MHRA.
