{"id":21740,"date":"2013-07-25T10:26:31","date_gmt":"2013-07-25T10:26:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=827673d257acfa04ebeecf2b71edfe3e"},"modified":"2013-07-25T10:26:31","modified_gmt":"2013-07-25T10:26:31","slug":"news-story-drug-use-at-lowest-ever-level","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=21740","title":{"rendered":"News story: Drug use at lowest ever level"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Drug use in England and Wales is at the lowest level since records began, according to a Home Office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/drug-misuse-findings-from-the-2012-to-2013-csew\">report<\/a> published today (25 July).<\/p>\n<p>An estimated 8.2% of 16 to 59-year-olds used an illicit drug in the last year \u2013 compared with 11.1% in 1996, according to the report, Drug Misuse: Findings from the 2012\/13 Crime Survey for England and Wales.<\/p>\n<p>The proportion of adults who took a Class A drug has dropped from 3% in 2011\/12 to 2.6%.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"public-attitudes\">Public attitudes<\/h2>\n<p>New questions in the 2012\/13 survey reveal the public\u2019s concerns about drug-taking too. Almost four out of five (79%) of respondents thought taking cannabis was unsafe. <\/p>\n<p>Two-thirds thought it was never acceptable to take cannabis and the vast majority said it was unsafe to take heroin, cocaine or ecstasy (99%, 97% and 97% respectively).<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Browne, Crime Prevention Minister, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Today\u2019s report shows drug usage in England and Wales is at its lowest level since records began.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This, coupled with the record number of people leaving drug treatment programmes free from dependency, is really positive news.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"crime-survey\">Crime survey<\/h2>\n<p>The statistics are based on results from the 2012-13 Crime Survey for England and Wales with interviews with around 21,000 adults aged 16-59.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Report shows falls in people taking illegal substances, including Class A drugs and cannabis.
