{"id":33278,"date":"2013-10-30T12:37:10","date_gmt":"2013-10-30T12:37:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=04e84c32d3c0f1861853c38dd03f7916"},"modified":"2013-10-30T12:37:10","modified_gmt":"2013-10-30T12:37:10","slug":"news-story-royal-marines-reservists-on-exercise-in-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=33278","title":{"rendered":"News story: Royal Marines reservists on exercise in California"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The 31 reservists joined their full-time colleagues from <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.royalnavy.mod.uk\/The-Fleet\/The-Royal-Marines\/3-Commando-Brigade\/40-Commando\">40 Commando Royal Marines<\/a> for the major workout at the US Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Centre in Twentynine Palms. <\/p>\n<p>Marine Matt Vickers is a student from Exeter and also a member of Royal Marines Reserve (<abbr title=\"Royal Marines Reserve\">RMR<\/abbr>) Bristol. He deployed on Black Alligator 13 attached to Delta Company.<\/p>\n<p>He said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Taking part in exercises like this gives reservists the opportunity to use the equipment and the weapons systems that we are trained on but rarely get to use in the UK. Here we have a massive area in which to practise and build our confidence and skills.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Royal Marines commandos drag an 'injured' colleague to safety\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/17841\/SH130047072.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Royal Marines commandos drag an &#8216;injured&#8217; colleague to safety during an early morning attack [Picture: Petty Officer (Photographer) Sean Clee, Crown copyright]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As a full-time student, Marine Vickers needs to balance his studies with the demands of being in the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.royalnavy.mod.uk\/marinereserves\">Royal Marines Reserve<\/a>, but he finds the time in his busy schedule:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I may be a reservist but that doesn\u2019t make me any less of a marine as we all undergo the same training, we\u2019re all motivated and keen to get the job done,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m extremely proud to wear the green beret.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Also on the 935-square-mile desert range was Marine Pete Madden, a member of <abbr title=\"Royal Marines Reserve\">RMR<\/abbr> Merseyside\u2019s Manchester detachment working with Alpha Company.<\/p>\n<p>Back in the UK, the Royal Marines reservist is also a church youth worker on Teesside. He said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I\u2019ve been a reservist for 3 years now and exercises like Black Alligator are ideal as we get a lot of training into a relatively short period of time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We are always kept busy on exercise and because we\u2019re fully integrated into 40 Commando we never feel that as reservists we are in some way different.
