{"id":34698,"date":"2013-11-13T15:34:57","date_gmt":"2013-11-13T15:34:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=2dc41d7caf84c6a5293edf48291d1fda"},"modified":"2013-11-13T15:34:57","modified_gmt":"2013-11-13T15:34:57","slug":"press-release-press-briefing-morning-11-november-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=34698","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Press briefing: morning 11 November 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<h2 id=\"china-visit\">China visit<\/h2>\n<p>Asked whether the Prime Minister (<abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr>) was going to China, the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister's Spokesperson\">PMS<\/abbr> said the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr> was invited to Beijing at the G20 summit  and was exploring when a visit would be possible. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"sir-john-majors-comments\">Sir John Major\u2019s comments<\/h2>\n<p>Asked for the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr>\u2019s view on comments from Sir John Major on social equality and aspiration, the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister's Spokesperson\">PMS<\/abbr> said the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr> and Sir John spoke regularly and discussed a wide range of things. At the heart of Sir John\u2019s comments was the importance of the aspiration nation. Families would want to know that the government had the right policies in place to ensure their children could fulfil their potential and ambitions. The government was focused on education and welfare reform to make that happen. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"interest-rates\">Interest rates<\/h2>\n<p>Asked whether the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr> agreed that interest rates should go up to help savers, the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister's Spokesperson\">PMS<\/abbr> said it was a matter for the Bank of England, but the government had introduced measures to protect pensioners, such as the triple lock on pensions.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"aes\">A&amp;Es<\/h2>\n<p>Asked whether the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr> was taking personal charge of the pressures on Accident and Emergency (<abbr title=\"Accident and Emergency\">A&amp;E<\/abbr>) departments this winter, the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister's Spokesperson\">PMS<\/abbr> said the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr> was working with the Health Secretary on health matters with a focus on A&amp;Es. The <abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr> had already announced \u00a3500 million of extra resources to help A&amp;Es and would keep up to date with the latest <abbr title=\"National Health Service\">NHS<\/abbr> data. A&amp;Es had seen 1.2 million more people come through their doors compared to three years ago and in the most recent period had been meeting its performance measures. There had already been reforms around adult social care and treatment for over 75s. Services also needed to be configured to meet their local requirements. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"russia\">Russia<\/h2>\n<p>Asked how the government was raising the issue of the Greenpeace activists, the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister's Spokesperson\">PMS<\/abbr> said the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr> had spoken to President Putin and the government was regularly in touch with its Russian counterparts.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"phone-lines\">Phone lines<\/h2>\n<p>Asked about the use of premium phone lines by government departments, the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister's Spokesperson\">PMS<\/abbr> said the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr> understood concerns people had, especially when seeking advice at difficult times in their lives such as bereavement. The Cabinet Office was working with departments that were most affected as well as Ofcom, to explore the use of national rate lines instead of premium lines.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"chogm\"><abbr title=\"Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting\">CHOGM<\/abbr><\/h2>\n<p>Asked whether the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr> had spoken to the Indian government regarding their decision not to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (<abbr title=\"Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting\">CHOGM<\/abbr>), the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister's Spokesperson\">PMS<\/abbr> said the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr> and Foreign Secretary respected the views of other Commonwealth governments and were in constant dialogue with the Indians.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"union-intimidation\">Union intimidation<\/h2>\n<p>Asked for the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr>\u2019s view on unions intimidating company bosses and their families, the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister's Spokesperson\">PMS<\/abbr> said the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr> had made his view clear in Prime Minister\u2019s Questions the previous week. Intimidating behaviour was wrong. The government was considering whether there was more that should be done.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"iran-talks\">Iran talks<\/h2>\n<p>Asked about the E3+3 talks with Iran, the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister's Spokesperson\">PMS<\/abbr> said the Foreign Secretary had said they were difficult negotiations. There was a deal on the table and it could be done.
