{"id":34786,"date":"2013-11-14T16:10:14","date_gmt":"2013-11-14T16:10:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=28bb2adf495c8e821894b97dbc04a2a1"},"modified":"2013-11-14T16:10:14","modified_gmt":"2013-11-14T16:10:14","slug":"news-story-european-commission-safeguards-british-film-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=34786","title":{"rendered":"News story: European Commission safeguards British film industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Government and the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bfi.org.uk\/news-opinion\/news-bfi\/announcements\/government-bfi-respond-ec-cinema-communication\">BFI<\/a> have welcomed the news that the European Commission has published a new Cinema Communication that safeguards the UK\u2019s film tax relief and Lottery funding for the film sector.<\/p>\n<p>The concerns of both the Government and the BFI have been acknowledged in the latest Cinema Communication, which underpins film tax schemes within Member States.<\/p>\n<p>Member States will be allowed to support the evolving need for public intervention in areas such as distribution and screen heritage, ensuring the economic and cultural health of the industry is sustained.<\/p>\n<p>Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c The UK film industry makes a valuable cultural contribution and is an important part of our diverse and dynamic economy. Through the film tax relief we have been able to support this highly skilled, innovative and creative sector and the European Commission\u2019s Cinema Communication will mean we can continue to provide that support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ed Vaizey, Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c It is fantastic that we now have a new Cinema Communication in place, confirming the on going viability of our extremely successful film tax regime that attracts moviemakers from all over the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amanda Nevill, CEO, BFI said: <\/p>\n<p>\u201c The BFI is delighted that the Commission has listened to our representations, made in partnership with other European countries, on behalf of the industry.
