{"id":35847,"date":"2013-11-25T12:17:53","date_gmt":"2013-11-25T12:17:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=48fd0fb5044e61f4054fcb1009fb55bd"},"modified":"2013-11-25T12:17:53","modified_gmt":"2013-11-25T12:17:53","slug":"news-story-raf-delivers-more-supplies-to-the-philippines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=35847","title":{"rendered":"News story: RAF delivers more supplies to the Philippines"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p><abbr title=\"Royal Air Force\">RAF<\/abbr> aircraft are continuing to fly missions to deliver much-needed humanitarian aid from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-international-development\">Department for International Development<\/a> around the islands, with the C-17 landing at Cebu Airport at 5pm local time (9am <abbr title=\"Greenwich Mean Time\">GMT<\/abbr>) on Saturday, 23 November 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The UK\u2019s International Development Secretary, Justine Greening, flew from Malaysia to Cebu with the C-17 crew and was on-hand to observe the delivery of the vital equipment to enable relief efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The loads delivered so far by the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.raf.mod.uk\/equipment\/c17aglobemaster.cfm\">C-17<\/a> and the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.raf.mod.uk\/equipment\/herculesc1c3.cfm\">C-130 Hercules<\/a> aircraft include 4&#215;4 vehicles, forklift trucks and diggers, as well as life-saving supplies such as temporary shelters, blankets and water purification tablets.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Justine Greening inspects aid supplies on board the C-17\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/19251\/MNT-20131123-153-Unclass-0279.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>The UK&#8217;s International Development Secretary, Justine Greening, inspects some of the aid supplies on board the C-17 [Picture: Corporal Neil Bryden <abbr title=\"Royal Air Force\">RAF<\/abbr>, Crown copyright]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The C-17\u2019s ability to fly long distances and land in remote regions makes it a premier transporter for military, humanitarian and peacekeeping missions, while the Hercules can use short runways and unload at locations without cargo-handling equipment.
