{"id":37540,"date":"2014-01-07T12:01:59","date_gmt":"2014-01-07T12:01:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=ec87797de50edb8b8cf2ad203f2a1859"},"modified":"2014-01-07T12:01:59","modified_gmt":"2014-01-07T12:01:59","slug":"press-release-warwickshire-recycling-project-wins-big-society-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=37540","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Warwickshire recycling project wins Big Society Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The announcement comes ahead of Warwickshire Community Recycling\u2019s busiest time of year as it prepares to recycle tons of Christmas packaging, wrapping and trees.<\/p>\n<p>Warwickshire Community Recycling runs 2 recycling centres, in Stockton and Wellesbourne, Warwickshire. <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wcava.org.uk\/\">Warwickshire Community and Voluntary Action<\/a> and the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.heartofenglandcf.co.uk\/index.php\/home\/\">Heart of England Community Foundation<\/a> set up the project in 2012. It was the first voluntary sector partnership to take over a recycling centre from the County Council, saving it from closure.  <\/p>\n<p>Proceeds from the social enterprise\u2019s recycling centres and re-use shops are now contributing to the Heart of England Community\u2019s foundation, which supports hundreds of grass-roots community groups with grants including Community Sports Clubs and youth and community groups.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister David Cameron said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Warwickshire Community Recycling is a fantastic project that lets people turn their piles of discarded wrapping paper, Christmas card envelopes and present packaging into cash for local community projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I\u2019m delighted to be recognising the hard work of the team with this Big Society Award.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Wayne Gibbons, Manager from Warwickshire Community Recycling, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We set up in 2012 to avoid the closure of 2 civic amenity sites. To support this we were given the opportunity to run reuse shops on 3 other household recycling sites. Since then we have achieved recycling rates of 70 to 75% on our 2 sites and have sold over 200 tonnes of reusable items.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Our staff and volunteers have worked hard to emphasize the benefits of reuse and recycling, and are able to demonstrate the effectiveness of combining both waste strategies on a single site.
