{"id":43826,"date":"2014-06-18T08:08:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-18T08:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=84ec720178f6c5ccb7155ade220385fc"},"modified":"2014-06-18T08:08:00","modified_gmt":"2014-06-18T08:08:00","slug":"news-story-bis-manufacturing-summit-2014-addressing-the-challenges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=43826","title":{"rendered":"News story: BIS Manufacturing Summit 2014 &#8211; addressing the challenges"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ifb2014.com\/BIS-Manufacturing-Summit-2014-e359.html\">The BIS Manufacturing Summit 2014<\/a> will take place as part of the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ifb2014.com\/The-Festival-i3.html\">International Festival of Business.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Summit will: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>highlight progress in implementing the<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/industrial-strategy-early-successes-and-future-priorities\">government\u2019s industrial strategy<\/a> and progress with issues raised at last year\u2019s Summit<\/li>\n<li>demonstrate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/industrial-strategy-government-and-industry-in-partnership\">government\u2019s ongoing support and commitment to manufacturing industry in the UK<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>engage senior business leaders from across the full range of manufacturing sectors in discussing future challenges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mymas.org\">Manufacturing<\/a> is of vital importance to the UK: it is responsible for 52% of exports and over 2.6 million jobs \u2013 8% of the total UK workforce. It accounts for 72% of all business expenditure on research and development \u2013 \u00a312.2 billion in cash terms. <\/p>\n<p>The government is strengthening the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.innovateuk.org\/-\/catapult-centres\">UK\u2019s manufacturing capability<\/a> by encouraging businesses to <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.innovateuk.org\">innovate and invest in new technologies<\/a>, as well as increasing <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.greatbusiness.gov.uk\/export\/\">exports<\/a>, improving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/uk-commission-for-employment-and-skills\">skills<\/a> and building <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/uk-supply-chains-good-practice-from-industry-and-government\">supply chains.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>An exhibition of north-west manufacturing excellence will run throughout the day alongside discussion sessions that will examine:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>inspiring young people, particularly women, into the sector<\/li>\n<li>energy and resource efficiency<\/li>\n<li>supply chains<\/li>\n<li>skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.greatbusiness.gov.uk\">The GREAT business campaign<\/a> has a wealth of information for employers about hiring apprentices, and about the government support available.
