{"id":44370,"date":"2014-06-30T09:49:37","date_gmt":"2014-06-30T09:49:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=503f7a7c3b9a8d160a4a9dd37554bd32"},"modified":"2014-06-30T09:49:37","modified_gmt":"2014-06-30T09:49:37","slug":"news-story-bingo-duty-reduction-comes-into-effect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=44370","title":{"rendered":"News story: Bingo duty reduction comes into effect"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>From today (Monday 30 June) hundreds of clubs across the country will benefit from the reduction of bingo duty as the new tax rate of 10% comes into effect.<\/p>\n<p>The government announced at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/topical-events\/budget-2014\">Budget<\/a> that the tax paid on bingo would be reduced from 20% to 10%. <\/p>\n<p>This reduction was welcomed by the industry, with members of the Bingo Association committing to reinvest the tax saved in a number of different ways. <\/p>\n<p>The Rank Group, which operates Mecca Bingo clubs, announced that it will open three new halls, and restart its modernisation programme as a result of the reduction, leading to more than 200 new jobs within the company. <\/p>\n<p>Gala Bingo also announced that it will open a new club as a result of the tax reduction, leading to 50 new jobs, and protecting almost 200 jobs elsewhere that would otherwise have been lost due to closures. <\/p>\n<p>Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, David Gauke, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>From today, the lower rate of bingo duty will benefit clubs across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Bingo plays an important role in local communities, and I hope that the lower rate of tax will encourage investment and help these clubs to thrive.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reduction welcomed by the industry, with members of the Bingo Association committing to reinvest the tax saved into clubs across the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/44370"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=44370"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/44370\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=44370"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=44370"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=44370"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
