{"id":44392,"date":"2014-06-30T13:41:48","date_gmt":"2014-06-30T13:41:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=14687cce4c1426dc06430668d86a1722"},"modified":"2014-06-30T13:41:48","modified_gmt":"2014-06-30T13:41:48","slug":"news-story-armed-forces-on-parade-at-pride-in-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=44392","title":{"rendered":"News story: Armed forces on parade at Pride in London"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Personnel from all 3 services celebrated their diversity on Saturday 28 June by marching in the UK\u2019s biggest gay pride event in London.<\/p>\n<p>More than 130 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (<abbr title=\"lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender\">LGBT<\/abbr>) serving personnel and heterosexual \u2018<abbr title=\"lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender\">LGBT<\/abbr> Allies\u2019 marched together in uniform at Pride in London to celebrate the freedom for <abbr title=\"lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender\">LGBT<\/abbr> people to live their lives without discrimination.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Army personnel marching at Pride in London\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/28026\/rsz_army.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Army personnel marching at Pride in London [Picture: Nicolas Chinardet]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This is the seventh time armed forces personnel have marched at Pride, and comes as the services approach the 15th year anniversary of the end of the ban on gay personnel.<\/p>\n<p>Since the ban was lifted, all 3 services and <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr> have worked hard to create inclusive workplaces and all have featured in the Stonewall top 100 index of <abbr title=\"lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender\">LGBT<\/abbr>-friendly employers.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Royal Navy personnel taking part in Pride in London\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/28027\/rsz_navy.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Royal Navy personnel taking part in Pride in London [Picture: Nicolas Chinardet]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As Pride in London took place on Armed Forces Day, the event was also an opportunity for personnel to represent their respective service and demonstrate their own personal pride in their uniform. <\/p>\n<p>Following the main Pride parade through central London, service personnel marched down Whitehall to salute the fallen at the Cenotaph in poignant recognition of the many <abbr title=\"lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender\">LGBT<\/abbr> people who have served Britain throughout history. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Royal Air Force personnel marching through Piccadilly Circus in London\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/28028\/rsz_raf.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Royal Air Force personnel marching through Piccadilly Circus in London [Picture: Nicolas Chinardet]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>All photographs kindly provided by Nicolas Chinardet.
