{"id":44425,"date":"2014-07-01T09:45:15","date_gmt":"2014-07-01T09:45:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=d1fa81c0bb2925e540c42d5face7fe77"},"modified":"2014-07-01T09:45:15","modified_gmt":"2014-07-01T09:45:15","slug":"press-release-new-faster-online-patent-renewal-service-goes-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=44425","title":{"rendered":"Press release: New faster online patent renewal service goes live"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Intellectual Property Office (<abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr>) today (1 July 2014) launched its new online patent renewal service, making it simpler, quicker and cheaper for businesses and inventors to renew their patents.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/renew-patent\">\u2018Renew a patent\u2019<\/a> is one of the government\u2019s 25 exemplar projects which are focused on redesigning and rebuilding government services, helping to transform the way people use services online.  <\/p>\n<p>Lord Younger, Minister for Intellectual Property (<abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr>), said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>More than 400,000 patents are renewed every year and more than a quarter of paper submissions have errors. A renewal request can be completed using the new service in under 4 minutes saving valuable time and money for both <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> specialists and businesses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr> is committed to delivering high quality services and improving the experience of its customers, and this latest development is part of a programme to transform all of its digital services.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Development of the new service began in August 2013 and through various testing phases, customers have so far renewed more than 2,500 patents to date. Feedback from businesses, private applicants and <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> professionals, has helped define the service launched today. <\/p>\n<p>This new service is part of a reform programme to simplify and improve customers\u2019 experience. People can already apply online for patents and trade marks. They can also renew trade marks online, but today\u2019s launch is another step forward in the <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr>\u2019s digital services transformation. <\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr> will also be moving its website to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/\">GOV.UK<\/a> platform later this year (2014).<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"notes-for-editors\">Notes for editors<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>The new service, \u2018Renew a patent\u2019 can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.uk\/renew-patent\">www.gov.uk\/renew-patent<\/a>. It will not replace existing methods of renewing patents, details of which can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.uk\/renew-patent#other-ways-to-apply\">www.gov.uk\/renew-patent#other-ways-to-apply<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr> provides a range of key services online, including searching for a patent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.uk\/search-for-patent\">(www.gov.uk\/search-for-patent)<\/a> and applying for patents <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.uk\/apply-for-a-patent\">(www.gov.uk\/apply-for-a-patent)<\/a> as well as registering trade marks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/register-a-trademark\">(www.gov.uk\/register-a-trademark)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>\u2018Renew a patent\u2019 is one of the government\u2019s 25 exemplar projects helping to transform the way people use online services.
