Simon was previously the Director of Local Government Finance at the Department of Communities and Local Government where he led a wide ranging reform agenda in local government finance to meet the Government\u2019s priorities on fiscal consolidation, economic growth, localism and public service reform. <\/p>\n

Prior to joining the Department for Communities and Local Government, Simon worked for 13 years at HM Treasury. He held a variety of roles there, predominantly focused on public spending and economic reform. <\/p>\n

Simon said:

The Planning Inspectorate<\/a> is an executive agency of the department and Simon takes over from Sir Michael Pitt who stepped down from the post on 30 June 2014. <\/p>\n

Sir Michael was appointed chairman of the Infrastructure Planning Commission when it was created in May 2009 and was then appointed chief executive of the Planning Inspectorate, overseeing the transition of the Commission\u2019s responsibilities to the Inspectorate when it was abolished in April 2012.<\/p>\n

Peter Schofield, Director General of Neighbourhoods at the Department for Communities and Local Government said:<\/p>\n

Simon is Chief Executive of the Planning Inspectorate. The Planning Inspectorate is an executive agency of the Department for Communities and Local Government. The agency deals with planning appeals, national infrastructure planning applications, examinations of local plans and other planning-related and specialist casework in England and Wales.<\/p>\n
