Plans for a new Tottenham Hotspur Football Club stadium jumped ahead today (11 July 2014) after permission was given to use a site earmarked for the stadium scheme. <\/p>\n

Ministers have agreed with a compulsory purchase order made by the London Borough of Haringey, which will enable the Northumberland Development Project to continue to proceed. <\/p>\n

More than 95% of the 3 hectare site has been acquired by agreement and work has already begun on the first of 3 phases of the redevelopment plan. The order was requested to allow the final 2 phases to proceed and follows a public inquiry. <\/p>\n

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles said: <\/p>\n

This scheme is supported by the locally determined development plan for the area and has received strong local support.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The redevelopment proposals have had far reaching support from local MPs, the London Mayor\u2019s champion for Tottenham and the chairman of the Independent Tottenham Taskforce. <\/p>\n

They all consider the project important for bringing much needed private investment into one of the most disadvantaged areas of London. <\/p>\n
