{"id":44954,"date":"2014-07-14T09:15:36","date_gmt":"2014-07-14T09:15:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=aafdd8dcd65c829b79d42e60f6ddd6a4"},"modified":"2014-07-14T09:15:36","modified_gmt":"2014-07-14T09:15:36","slug":"news-story-new-analysis-shows-growing-trade-with-scotland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=44954","title":{"rendered":"News story: New analysis shows growing trade with Scotland"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>With less than 3 months to go before the referendum on Scotland\u2019s membership of the UK, new analysis shows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>in 2012, \u00a347.6 billion worth of Scottish exports ranging from chemicals to consultancy, to food and finance have made their way south of the border (this excludes oil and gas)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That\u2019s:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>almost double what Scotland exports to the rest of the world combined<\/li>\n<li>more than 4 times what it exports to the rest of the EU<\/li>\n<li>equivalent to a third of Scotland\u2019s <abbr title=\"gross domestic product\">GDP<\/abbr>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Graph showing Scottish exports by destination\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/28543\/scottish-exports.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Scottish exports by main destination (2002 to 2012), nominal terms (Source: Scotland\u2019s Global Connections Survey 2012)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And these exports are growing in value faster than other markets:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>between 2002 and 2012, the value of exports to the rest of the UK increased by 69%<\/li>\n<li>that\u2019s compared with just 7% increase for the same period to the rest of the EU<\/li>\n<li>and sales increases to Asia of 60%, and to North America of 63%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sales to the rest of the UK are vital for many Scottish business sectors. Customer loyalty to a UK industry and the single domestic UK-wide market supports high trade levels.
