{"id":45291,"date":"2014-07-19T16:41:32","date_gmt":"2014-07-19T16:41:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=8775f6727d0660b52c90be239afec7f3"},"modified":"2014-07-19T16:41:32","modified_gmt":"2014-07-19T16:41:32","slug":"press-release-winners-announced-in-national-schools-competition-to-shape-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=45291","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Winners announced in national schools competition to \u2018Shape the Future\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Students from Castle Park Primary School in Kendal, Cumbria have won the Department for International Development\u2019s annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/british-students-challenged-to-shape-the-future\">\u2018Shape the Future\u2019<\/a> competition, International Development Secretary Justine Greening revealed today.<\/p>\n<p>Announced at the department\u2019s #YouthForChange summit, supported by actress and campaigner Freida Pinto, the contest challenged UK schoolchildren to submit their best ideas on how to improve the life chances of girls and women in developing countries. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Photo of Justine Greening and Freida Pinto\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/28826\/YFC-SoS-FP.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Freida Pinto joined Justine Greening to support #YouthForChange. Picture: Russell Watkins\/DFID<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Too often, girls and women in developing countries are robbed of their future by child marriage, lack of education and the daily threat of violence.  <\/p>\n<p>The campaigns and ideas set out at #YouthForChange will be presented at the UK\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/topical-events\/girl-summit-2014\">Girl Summit 2014<\/a> where political leaders, celebrities and campaigners from around the world will gather on Tuesday 22 July to build international support for ending female genital mutilation and child, early and forced marriage in a generation.<\/p>\n<p>Announcing the results of the Shape the Future competition, Justine Greening said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>When I visit schools across the UK I am always struck by how much young people care about what is going on in the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p>The excellent entries to this year\u2019s Shape the Future competition show that British schoolchildren understand the challenges facing girls and boys in developing countries. Young people are the change-makers of tomorrow and Castle Park\u2019s entry shows that they want to be part of the solution for a better future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Huge congratulations to everyone who took part. Together we can create a world where all girls and women fulfil their potential free from discrimination and violence.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Schools across the country entered this year\u2019s Shape the Future competition, and 2 others reached the final at #YouthForChange \u2013 Raynes Park High School in South West London and St Swithun\u2019s School in Winchester, Hampshire.
