{"id":45442,"date":"2014-07-22T13:43:00","date_gmt":"2014-07-22T13:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=e81e8b16d899bb44f4d19cc1e632e2d1"},"modified":"2014-07-22T13:43:00","modified_gmt":"2014-07-22T13:43:00","slug":"news-story-new-fgm-measures-launched-to-care-protect-prevent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=45442","title":{"rendered":"News story: New FGM measures launched to \u2018care, protect, prevent\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Female Genital Mutilation\">FGM<\/abbr> prevention programme &#8211; backed by \u00a31.4million &#8211; is funded through the largest ever domestic funding package for <abbr title=\"Female Genital Mutilation\">FGM<\/abbr> and is designed to improve the way in which the NHS tackles <abbr title=\"Female Genital Mutilation\">FGM<\/abbr> and clarify the role of health professionals which is to \u2018care, protect, prevent\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Public Health Minister Jane Ellison said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><abbr title=\"Female Genital Mutilation\">FGM<\/abbr> can completely devastate the lives of sufferers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I am immensely proud of the work the government is doing to eradicate this dreadful practice. This will enhance the safeguarding responsibility of the NHS around <abbr title=\"Female Genital Mutilation\">FGM<\/abbr> to care, protect and prevent.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The range of measures launched by the Department of Health at the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.girlsummitpledge.com\/\">Girl Summit<\/a> to tackle <abbr title=\"Female Genital Mutilation\">FGM<\/abbr> include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a31.4m funding to launch the <abbr title=\"Female Genital Mutilation\">FGM<\/abbr> prevention programme<\/li>\n<li>introduction of improved data collection across the NHS to help understand the prevalence of <abbr title=\"Female Genital Mutilation\">FGM<\/abbr> in England<\/li>\n<li>improved training packages to enable frontline health workers to respond appropriately in the face of <abbr title=\"Female Genital Mutilation\">FGM<\/abbr>\n<\/li>\n<li>work to clarify the safeguarding role of health professionals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The programme of work focuses on prevention and care, with the ultimate aim to get a better response to <abbr title=\"Female Genital Mutilation\">FGM<\/abbr> from the health services.<\/p>\n<p>From April 2014, NHS hospitals were required to record if a patient has had <abbr title=\"Female Genital Mutilation\">FGM<\/abbr>, if there is a family history of <abbr title=\"Female Genital Mutilation\">FGM<\/abbr>, or if an <abbr title=\"Female Genital Mutilation\">FGM<\/abbr>-related procedure has been carried out on a women (deinfibulation).<\/p>\n<p>By September this year, all acute hospitals must report the number of patients with <abbr title=\"Female Genital Mutilation\">FGM<\/abbr> to the Department of Health on a monthly basis.
