{"id":45503,"date":"2014-07-23T09:02:30","date_gmt":"2014-07-23T09:02:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=ae9f23d1f463900aa067b5058ab47485"},"modified":"2014-07-23T09:02:30","modified_gmt":"2014-07-23T09:02:30","slug":"news-story-rohs-extended-to-medical-devices-and-monitoring-and-control-instruments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=45503","title":{"rendered":"News story: RoHS extended to medical devices and monitoring and control instruments"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>From 22 July 2014 the scope of the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances (<abbr title=\"the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment directive\">RoHS<\/abbr>) in electrical and electronic equipment (<abbr title=\"electrical and electronic equipment\">EEE<\/abbr>) directive (EU Directive 2011\/65\/EU) was extended to cover most medical devices (<abbr title=\"electrical and electronic equipment\">EEE<\/abbr> category 8) and monitoring and control instruments (<abbr title=\"electrical and electronic equipment\">EEE<\/abbr> category 9). With some exceptions, <abbr title=\"electrical and electronic equipment\">EEE<\/abbr> in these categories placed on the market from this date will need to comply with <abbr title=\"the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment directive\">RoHS<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>Category 8 medical devices include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>radiotherapy equipment<\/li>\n<li>cardiology<\/li>\n<li>dialysis<\/li>\n<li>pulmonary ventilators<\/li>\n<li>nuclear medicine<\/li>\n<li>analysers<\/li>\n<li>freezers<\/li>\n<li>fertilization tests and other appliances for detecting<\/li>\n<li>laboratory equipment for in-vitro diagnosis (although the extension does not apply to in vitro diagnostic medical devices until 22 July 2016)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Directive does not apply to active implantable medical devices. <\/p>\n<p>Category 9 monitoring and control instruments includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>smoke detectors<\/li>\n<li>heating regulators<\/li>\n<li>thermostats<\/li>\n<li>measuring, weighing or adjusting appliances for household or laboratory equipment<\/li>\n<li>other monitoring and control instruments used in industrial installations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Industrial monitoring and control instruments do not fall into the scope of <abbr title=\"the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment directive\">RoHS<\/abbr> until 22 July 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/national-measurement-office-enforcement-authority\">NMO enforcement authority<\/a> is responsible for enforcing this legislation and will be undertaking compliance activities in order to ensure that those who deal in category 8 and category 9 products fulfill their obligations.<\/p>\n<p>For further information contact the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rohs.bis.gov.uk\/ROHS\/Enquiry.aspx\">NMO\u2019s enquiry service<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From 22nd July 2014, the extent of the scope for complying with the RoHS Directive has been extended to include medical devices and monitoring and control instruments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/45503"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=45503"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/45503\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=45503"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=45503"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=45503"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
