{"id":45898,"date":"2014-08-01T13:49:00","date_gmt":"2014-08-01T13:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=68057cc9738c16f1addd0bd13d6d2422"},"modified":"2014-08-01T13:49:00","modified_gmt":"2014-08-01T13:49:00","slug":"news-story-meningitis-b-vaccine-price-negotiations-begin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=45898","title":{"rendered":"News story: Meningitis B vaccine price negotiations begin"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Earlier this year, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (<abbr title=\"Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation\">JCVI<\/abbr>), the government\u2019s independent vaccine experts, recommended that the meningococcal B (<abbr title=\"meningococcal B\">MenB<\/abbr>) vaccine should be offered to infants starting at 2 months of age, but were clear that this recommendation was dependent on the vaccine being bought at a cost-effective price considerably below the list price.<\/p>\n<p>Since the <abbr title=\"Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation\">JCVI<\/abbr>\u2019s recommendation, senior officials in the Department of Health and Public Health England have been putting the necessary legal and technical arrangements in place so the negotiation process could begin.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Professor John Watson said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><abbr title=\"meningococcal B\">MenB<\/abbr> can have a devastating impact on children and families, which is why we are keen to work with Novartis to agree cost-effective terms for buying the vaccine as soon as possible so children are protected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I recognise that families want to see the vaccination programme introduced quickly, but NHS funds must be used as effectively as possible and it is right we follow due process to make sure this happens.
