{"id":46251,"date":"2014-08-11T08:31:39","date_gmt":"2014-08-11T08:31:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=0044bef1f97f025be9ef7398d15f6469"},"modified":"2014-08-11T08:31:39","modified_gmt":"2014-08-11T08:31:39","slug":"news-story-driver-cpc-deadline-set-to-be-achieved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=46251","title":{"rendered":"News story: Driver CPC deadline set to be achieved"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (<abbr title=\"Certificate of Professional Competence\">CPC<\/abbr>) was introduced in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2008 for bus and coach drivers<\/li>\n<li>2009 for lorry drivers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>New drivers who drive for a living had to start taking the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/driver-certificate-of-professional-competence-cpc\/the-driver-cpc-initial-qualification\">Driver <abbr title=\"Certificate of Professional Competence\">CPC<\/abbr> initial qualification<\/a> from then.<\/p>\n<p>Existing drivers were given \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/driver-certificate-of-professional-competence-cpc\/having-driver-cpc-through-acquired-rights\">acquired rights<\/a>\u2019 which took their previous experience into account.<\/p>\n<p>To stay within the rules, all drivers must do 35 hours of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/driver-certificate-of-professional-competence-cpc\/driver-cpc-periodic-training\">periodic training<\/a> every 5 years.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"figures-show-the-deadline-will-be-met\">Figures show the deadline will be met<\/h2>\n<p>Before Driver <abbr title=\"Certificate of Professional Competence\">CPC<\/abbr> was introduced, industry stakeholders were asked how many professional bus, coach and lorry drivers would need it. Their estimate was between 500,000 and 750,000. <\/p>\n<p>This figure was then revised following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/driver-training-exemption-set-to-cut-costs-and-bureaucracy\">exemption covering 75,000 valets and fitters<\/a> to between 425,000 and 675,000 drivers.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/statistics\/driver-certificate-of-professional-competence-cpc-statistics\">current figures<\/a> show that nearly 800,000 are engaged in Driver <abbr title=\"Certificate of Professional Competence\">CPC<\/abbr> and just over 564,000 have completed their 35 hours\u2019 training. After the deadline they\u2019ll be able to check whether \u2018acquired rights\u2019 lorry drivers have completed their training or are driving illegally.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Not being aware of Driver <abbr title=\"Certificate of Professional Competence\">CPC<\/abbr> is not an excuse for drivers or operators and there will be no amnesty period.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Joan Aitken, lead Traffic Commissioner on Driver <abbr title=\"Certificate of Professional Competence\">CPC<\/abbr>, added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Operators could also find themselves before commissioners if there are issues around the circumstances in which a driver was working without the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/driver-certificate-of-professional-competence-cpc\/driver-qualification-card-dqc\">driver qualification card<\/a> (<abbr title=\"driver qualification card\">DQC<\/abbr>), or failed to produce it.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"enforcing-driver-cpc\">Enforcing Driver <abbr title=\"Certificate of Professional Competence\">CPC<\/abbr><br \/>\n<\/h2>\n<p>Driving professionally without carrying your <abbr title=\"driver qualification card\">DQC<\/abbr> carries a \u00a350 fixed penalty. <\/p>\n<p>Driving without a Driver <abbr title=\"Certificate of Professional Competence\">CPC<\/abbr> qualification may also lead to prosecution proceedings &#8211; with a \u00a31,000 maximum penalty &#8211; for both the driver and the operator. <\/p>\n<p>These offences will also be referred to the Traffic Commissioner, which could result in the suspension of the driver\u2019s and\/or the operator\u2019s licence. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New figures show that lorry drivers with acquired rights will complete their first block of periodic training by 10 September 2014.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/46251"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=46251"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/46251\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=46251"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=46251"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=46251"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
