{"id":46328,"date":"2014-08-13T08:10:00","date_gmt":"2014-08-13T08:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=5a10c76d3b642188349ae58dd29a2730"},"modified":"2014-08-13T08:10:00","modified_gmt":"2014-08-13T08:10:00","slug":"news-story-one-in-ten-scottish-jobs-linked-to-uk-trade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=46328","title":{"rendered":"News story: One in ten Scottish jobs linked to UK trade"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>New <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/jobs-in-scotland-and-the-uks-single-market\">expert analysis<\/a>, published today (13 August 2014) by the Treasury, shows that almost 270,000 jobs \u2013 over 1 in 10 &#8211; in Scotland are linked to trade with the UK.<\/p>\n<p>This latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/jobs-in-scotland-and-the-uks-single-market\">Treasury analysis<\/a> is based upon independent leading academic <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.scottisheconomywatch.com\/brian-ashcrofts-scottish\/2014\/06\/scottish-jobs-and-the-uk.html\">research from Professor Brian Ashcroft<\/a> of Strathclyde Business School.<\/p>\n<p>Of the jobs directly benefitting from the UK\u2019s single integrated market, more than 100,000 are done by women and over 1 in 3 by under 35s. Scotland <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/scotland.gov.uk\/Topics\/Statistics\/Browse\/Economy\/QNA2013Q4\">exports \u00a351 billion worth of good to the rest of the UK<\/a>, this is more than double Scotland\u2019s exports to the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p>Scotland is also contributing to the UK\u2019s growing exports to emerging markets in South America and Asia.<\/p>\n<p>The economic evidence shows that a borderless UK is a key part of Scotland\u2019s economic success. The analysis demonstrates how important the UK\u2019s fully integrated single market is for the security of jobs and livelihoods in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>International evidence shows that a border significantly reduces trade between countries, eroding mutual prosperity and undermining jobs on both sides. Borders create differences in regulatory and administrative regimes. They weaken business networks. They create barriers to trade and obstacles to the movement of people and other resources. Together, these impacts are called the border effect.
