{"id":46393,"date":"2014-08-14T11:32:17","date_gmt":"2014-08-14T11:32:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=a2cb3b652cd4315edcaf9a7160b23225"},"modified":"2014-08-14T11:32:17","modified_gmt":"2014-08-14T11:32:17","slug":"news-story-1-7-million-to-repair-small-ports-across-england","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=46393","title":{"rendered":"News story: \u00a31.7 million to repair small ports across England"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin has announced \u00a31.7 million funding to help repair small ports and harbours across England damaged by winter storms.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty one communities will benefit ranging from Cornwall to East Riding.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick McLoughlin said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Our small ports are vital to the livelihoods of the communities they serve and are the lifeblood of the local economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The government has already provided significant funding to reverse the damage caused by an exceptionally wet and windy winter. I want to see this additional money help the recovery in these coastal towns.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Small Ports Fund is in addition to \u00a3200 million already provided by the government to help fix roads, railways and coastal communities hit by the severe winter weather.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p>View the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.dft.gov.uk\/small-ports\/\">harbour repair funding allocations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"ports-funding--who-is-getting-what-and-why-they-need-it\">Ports funding \u2013 who is getting what and why they need it<\/h2>\n<h2 id=\"cornwall\">Cornwall<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Bude Harbour: \u00a335,405 to fix holes in breakwater and trailing wall damage; \u00a313,668 to address loss of sand from within the breakwater which has led to granite stones been undermined<\/li>\n<li>Mousehole Harbour: \u00a319,905 to fix partial collapse of old wharf, damage to car park, toilets and railings as well as replacing timbers and equipment related to electricity supply<\/li>\n<li>Newlyn Harbour: \u00a34,320 for repairs to North Pier roofing and South Pier railings<\/li>\n<li>Penzance Harbour: \u00a3129,674 to fix breach of sea wall, loss of fresh water supply and damaged lighting on Lighthouse Quay and, on South Quay, to repair damage to fresh water break tank, cobbled surface and electrical bollards<\/li>\n<li>Porthleven Harbour: \u00a3434,786 to repair collapse of wall at Fisherman\u2019s Quay, remove large granite blocks partially blocking the sluice and fix damage to the hospital corner wall, loss of capping to harbour head wall and undermining of slipway.
