The appointment is subject to clearance checks.<\/p>\n<p>The appointment has been conducted in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments\u2019 Code of Practice on appointments to Public Bodies.<\/p>\n<p>The Civil Procedure Act 1997 led to the establishment of the CPRC and gave the Committee powers to make the Civil Procedure Rules.<\/p>\n<p>The first set of rules were made by statutory instrument in 1998 and came into force in April 1999. The Committee also considers Practice Directions and pre-Action protocols.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"biography--richard-viney\">Biography \u2013 Richard Viney<\/h3>\n<p>Richard was called as a barrister in 1994 and now specialises in personal injury work with particular expertise in industrial disease claims and motor insurance policy issues. Richard acts for a mix of claimants and defendants and has developed a wide experience of court and advisory work.<\/p>\n<p>Richard has been a Deputy District Judge on the West Midlands Circuit since 2010 involved in mainly civil work.<\/p>\n<p>This appointment was made on merit in accordance with the principles of the Commissioner for Public Appointments\u2019 Code of Practice. <\/p>\n<p>In accordance with the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments there is a requirement for appointees\u2019 political activity, if declared, to be made public.
