{"id":47423,"date":"2014-09-10T09:12:18","date_gmt":"2014-09-10T09:12:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=0a461783d1cd99e7a66c229d567b97c9"},"modified":"2014-09-10T09:12:18","modified_gmt":"2014-09-10T09:12:18","slug":"press-release-ukces-welcomes-increase-in-those-taking-degrees-but-calls-for-more-work-based-skills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=47423","title":{"rendered":"Press release: UKCES welcomes increase in those taking degrees, but calls for more work-based skills"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Figures from the <abbr title=\"Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development\">OECD<\/abbr> revealing more than half of young people in the UK are expected to take on a degree have been welcomed by the government-backed UK Commission for Employment and Skills (<abbr title=\"UK Commission for Employment and Skills\">UKCES<\/abbr>)<\/p>\n<p>But <abbr title=\"UK Commission for Employment and Skills\">UKCES<\/abbr> also warns that the skills of these graduates could go to waste unless more is done to create good jobs for young people, and prepare young people to take those jobs. <\/p>\n<p>The findings from the <abbr title=\"Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development\">OECD<\/abbr> report, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.keepeek.com\/Digital-Asset-Management\/oecd\/education\/education-at-a-glance-2014_eag-2014-en#page1\">Education at a Glance<\/a>, indicate that 55% of young adults in the UK will take a degree before they reach 25, compared with 39% in France and 53% in the US.
