The CDE<\/abbr> Innovation Network event<\/a>, on 9 September in London, proved extremely popular with registrations reaching capacity well before the day. This free to attend CDE<\/abbr> event provided a unique opportunity for suppliers to find out how their ideas could improve military capability. Briefings covered MOD<\/abbr>\u2019s research challenges, funding opportunities and guidance on how to submit a proposal to CDE<\/abbr>. Suppliers, both existing and new, found out more about the newly launched themed competition on \u2018automating cyber defence responses\u2019<\/a>. For those who missed the event, a CDE<\/abbr> webinar<\/a> supported by the cyber programme will take place on 18 September from 12.30pm .<\/p>\n

The event included presentations on CDE<\/abbr>\u2019s enduring challenges by 2 military speakers, who gave their unique perspective on the operational environment and challenges facing defence. For those who wanted to discuss their highly innovative research ideas, face-to-face meeting slots were very popular. It was great to meet those new to the CDE<\/abbr> process as well as familiar faces who continue to develop their ideas and provide vital innovative suggestions to MOD<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n

Guest presenters at the event included Matt Lewis, CEO Project4 Technologies Ltd<\/a>, who shared his experience as an SME<\/abbr> successfully funded via the CDE<\/abbr> mechanism, and HMRC<\/abbr><\/a>, with guidance on how to claim R&D<\/abbr> tax credits. CyberLytic<\/a> and Metrarc Ltd<\/a>, both CDE<\/abbr> funded SMEs, attended the event as exhibitors.<\/p>\n

The next CDE<\/abbr> Innovation Network event<\/a> will take place on 30 September 2014, in Glasgow. Please register to come and find out more about the latest themed competitions which are launching: \u2018synthetic biology applications in defence\u2019<\/a> and \u2018defence medical sciences\u2019<\/a> in addition to CDE<\/abbr>\u2019s enduring challenge competition<\/a> with its range of defence challenges.
