Business Secretary Vince Cable has announced the appointment of Juergen Maier as a Non-Executive Board member at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n

Juergen Maier has been a member of the Siemens UK Executive Management Board since October 2008, and has held a number of senior roles within Siemens in the UK and Germany. He was appointed Chief Executive at Siemens plc on 1 July 2014.<\/p>\n

So I am delighted that he is joining BIS<\/abbr> as a Non-Executive member of our Departmental Board. Non-executive board members are experts from outside government who assist in the delivery of policy using relevant experience from business.<\/p>\n

Juergen Maier joins Allan Cook, Stephen Bligh, Ann Dowling, Dale Murray, Dalton Philips and Wendy Purcell on the BIS<\/abbr> board.<\/p>\n

Juergen Maier \u2013 Biography:<\/h4>\n

Juergen Maier was appointed Chief Executive of Siemens plc on 1 July 2014.<\/p>\n

Juergen has been a member of the Siemens UK Executive Management Board since October 2008, and has held a number of senior roles within Siemens in the UK and Germany including Industry Sector lead for the UK and Ireland, 2 Divisional Managing Director roles and Manufacturing Director of the award-winning Drives Factory in Congleton, Cheshire.<\/p>\n

Juergen joined Siemens in 1986 after obtaining a BSc in production engineering from Nottingham Trent University, on a Siemens-sponsored graduate programme.<\/p>\n

He was also made an honorary professor of Engineering at the University of Manchester in March 2014.<\/p>\n

Juergen is passionate about the UK rebalancing its economy and supports a number of UK-wide initiatives in support of Manufacturing and engineering skills including board membership of the Sector Skills council SEMTA and of the EEF (UK manufacturers\u2019 organisation) and championing various government initiatives such as UK\u2019s High Value Manufacturing Catapults. He also holds a Non-Executive Director role for a SME<\/abbr> manufacturing company called International Innovative Technologies based in Gateshead and is Chairman of the North West Business Leadership team and a board member of Greater Manchester LEP<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n

Born 1964 in Germany with Austrian nationality, he came to the UK in 1974. <\/p>\n
