Since then, it has served more than 160 million travel information requests, as well as helping spectators plan their routes to the London 2012 Olympic Games. In the past few years, the government has worked with transport operators to make timetable data freely available to web developers. As a result, a number of journey planning websites have emerged, offering similar services to Transport Direct, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cyclestreets.net\/\">Cyclestreet<\/a><\/li>\n<li>\n<a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.google.co.uk\/\">Google map<\/a> (for public transport and car journey planning)<\/li>\n<li>\n<a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rac.co.uk\/route-planner\/\">RAC route planner<\/a> (for car journey planning)<\/li>\n<li>\n<a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theaa.com\/route-planner\/index.jsp\">AA route planner<\/a> (for car journey planning)<\/li>\n<li>\n<a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/traveline.info\/\">Traveline<\/a> (for public transport)<\/li>\n<li>\n<a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.travelinesoutheast.org.uk\/se\/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en&amp;timeOffset=15\">Traveline south east<\/a> (for public transport)<\/li>\n<li><a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/walkit.com\/\">walkit.com<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These provide information such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>national journey planners for public transport, car and cycle<\/li>\n<li>rail and coach fares information<\/li>\n<li>maps of routes, areas and interchanges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After Transport Direct closes, <abbr title=\"Department for Transport\">DfT<\/abbr> will continue to take an active interest in journey planning.
