{"id":48032,"date":"2014-09-26T10:09:44","date_gmt":"2014-09-26T10:09:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=545e5c9d7563cd93fb9b99bfc0c7788b"},"modified":"2014-09-26T10:09:44","modified_gmt":"2014-09-26T10:09:44","slug":"news-story-mod-awards-contract-to-build-typhoon-facilities-in-moray","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=48032","title":{"rendered":"News story: MOD awards contract to build Typhoon facilities in Moray"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (<abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation\">DIO<\/abbr>), <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr>\u2019s property and services provider, has awarded the contract to Turner Estate Solutions, its existing regional prime contractor responsible for delivering infrastructure work in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>Turner Estate Solutions will undertake the work in around 14 months. This builds on some \u00a317 million of works already in progress at the Moray air base.<\/p>\n<p>This work will deliver much-needed infrastructure required to support Typhoon operations 365-days-per-year. Significantly, this vital upgrade will provide the home for II (Army Cooperation) Squadron, the third Typhoon squadron to stand up at <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.raf.mod.uk\/raflossiemouth\/\"><abbr title=\"Royal Air Force\">RAF<\/abbr> Lossiemouth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It will include operational planning, mission briefing and management functions, provision of secure undercover aircraft storage, engineering management and control functions required to support the effective operation of the Royal Air Force\u2019s front-line <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.raf.mod.uk\/equipment\/typhoon.cfm\">Typhoon aircraft<\/a> at the air base.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Typhoon taking off \" src=\"https:\/\/assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/31079\/Typhoon_taking_off__Photo_by_SAC_Scott_Lewis__Crown_Copyright_.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Typhoon taking off [Picture: Senior Aircraftman Scott Lewis, Crown copyright]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/defence-infrastructure-organisation\"><abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation\">DIO<\/abbr><\/a> Director of Finance and Commercial Marcus Leek said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation\">DIO<\/abbr>\u2019s priority is to enhance the service we provide to defence and build a better estate; the right buildings in the right places.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We\u2019re delighted to award this contract to Turner Estate Solutions and look forward to delivering the facilities required to further enhance <abbr title=\"Royal Air Force\">RAF<\/abbr> Lossiemouth as a front-line operating base for the UK\u2019s Typhoon Force.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The award of this contract follows the basing review announcement in July 2011, which stated that the Typhoon Force would relocate from <abbr title=\"Royal Air Force\">RAF<\/abbr> Leuchars to <abbr title=\"Royal Air Force\">RAF<\/abbr> Lossiemouth.  <\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year 2 squadrons from <abbr title=\"Royal Air Force\">RAF<\/abbr> Leuchars, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.raf.mod.uk\/organisation\/1squadron.cfm\">1 (Fighter) Squadron<\/a> and <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.raf.mod.uk\/organisation\/6squadron.cfm\">6 Squadron<\/a>, relocated to <abbr title=\"Royal Air Force\">RAF<\/abbr> Lossiemouth.
