{"id":48057,"date":"2014-09-26T15:19:27","date_gmt":"2014-09-26T15:19:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=28f231eefb991f54537fbee74dc75dea"},"modified":"2014-09-26T15:19:27","modified_gmt":"2014-09-26T15:19:27","slug":"news-story-dio-on-track-for-wildcats-arrival-in-somerset","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=48057","title":{"rendered":"News story: DIO on track for Wildcats&#8217; arrival in Somerset"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Royal Naval Air Station (<abbr title=\"Royal Naval Air Station\">RNAS<\/abbr>) Yeovilton will soon be home to the new Wildcat helicopters of the British Army and Royal Navy, with army regiments due to move from G\u00fctersloh in Germany and Yorkshire to the air station. <\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation\">DIO<\/abbr> signed the first contract with industry partner Carillion in February 2014 to provide the new training and office facilities that will ensure that service men and women at the air base are able to train for deployment using both the existing fleet of Lynx helicopters and the Wildcats. <\/p>\n<p>The final contract will deliver new and improved messing, accommodation, and sports and medical facilities at the Somerset air station. Works start this month and the project will be completed in November 2016 when the new helicopters are due to arrive.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/defence-infrastructure-organisation\"><abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation\">DIO<\/abbr><\/a> team leader Steve Jeffries said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation\">DIO<\/abbr>\u2019s priority is to support our armed forces by delivering the facilities they need to live, work, train and deploy on operations; the right buildings in the right places.<\/p>\n<p>Acquisition of the new Wildcat helicopters means that the Yeovilton base will become the British Army and Royal Navy\u2019s centre for both front-line squadrons and training units, including the Commando Helicopter Force.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Today is an exciting day as it marks the start of the final part of the development.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Trevor Pratt, Commodore Jock Alexander and Matt Harris\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/31101\/VL140109023.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Trevor Pratt, Carillion project director, Commodore Jock Alexander, commanding officer at <abbr title=\"Royal Naval Air Station\">RNAS<\/abbr> Yeovilton, and the <abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation\">DIO<\/abbr>&#8216;s Matt Harris [Picture: Crown copyright]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Commodore Jock Alexander, commanding officer at <abbr title=\"Royal Naval Air Station\">RNAS<\/abbr> Yeovilton, added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>It is great news that <abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation\">DIO<\/abbr> is providing these much-needed new facilities here at Yeovilton.
