{"id":48597,"date":"2014-10-10T23:00:08","date_gmt":"2014-10-10T23:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=b92830c86197588eaeb9717418290de7"},"modified":"2014-10-10T23:00:08","modified_gmt":"2014-10-10T23:00:08","slug":"news-story-exercise-to-test-preparedness-for-a-case-of-ebola-in-the-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=48597","title":{"rendered":"News story: Exercise to test preparedness for a case of Ebola in the UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>To test preparedness for an Ebola case in the UK, senior ministers, government departments and expert medical professionals from ambulance services, hospitals and Public Health England, along with the Chief Medical Officer and her team, will today (11 October 2014) be participating in a national exercise. <\/p>\n<p>To ensure the public is protected, the <abbr title=\"Prime Minister\">PM<\/abbr> has ordered the exercise as part of the UK\u2019s ongoing contingency planning. <\/p>\n<p>The 8-hour exercise will involve actors simulating Ebola symptoms and emergency services responding to them in multiple areas around the country. Some people taking part in the exercise may be wearing personal protective equipment. <\/p>\n<p>The exercise will test simulated scenarios in different locations, and a simulated government <abbr title=\"Cabinet Office Briefing Room\">COBR<\/abbr> meeting chaired by the Health Secretary will follow. <\/p>\n<p>A <abbr title=\"Department of Health\">DH<\/abbr> spokesperson said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The public can be assured that we have been planning our response to an Ebola case in the UK for many months now since the outbreak started in West Africa.  It is vital that we test these plans in as realistic a situation as possible \u2013 with real people in real time.
