The new road will link Heysham with junction 34 of the M6 which is operated by the Highways Agency.<\/p>\n

Highways Agency project manager Paul Elliott said:<\/p>\n

Although Heysham Link is a county council project along the local road network its connection to the M6 will deliver significant improvements at junction 34 of the motorway with better entry and exit slips.<\/p>\n

To allow the junction improvements to take place safely we will need to close large sections of the motorway hard shoulder for more than a year and also change the way motorway traffic is managed as it is joining the motorway or travelling through the junction.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Lancashire County Council road project started in January and is due to be completed in 2016. The improvements around junction 34 include better motorway slip roads and a 600-space park and ride site just off the junction and work on these is now underway.<\/p>\n

The link road project will need the closure of the hard shoulder along both the southbound and northbound carriageways of the M6 through junction 34 until May 2016. <\/p>\n

Drivers already on the northbound M6 and travelling through the junction will be restricted to lanes 2 and 3 with lane 1 reserved over a short length of the carriageway for those joining the northbound carriageway from junction 34.<\/p>\n

Lancashire County Council has a dedicated website<\/a> for the project including up to date schedules of roadworks. <\/p>\n
