Get On.<\/a> campaign. This aims to ensure that, by 2025, all children leave school with the ability to read well.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Prime Minister read a story to 5- and 6-year-old children at the school as part of his promise to help meet the campaign target. <\/p>\n<p>He also spoke to pupils as part of a new campaign called <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.inspiringthefuture.org\/schools-colleges\/primary-schools.aspx\">Primary Futures,<\/a> which aims to help raise the career aspirations of thousands of children in primary schools.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p>Read a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/speeches\/get-kids-reading-article-by-nick-clegg\">short article by Nick Clegg on the importance of children reading<\/a>, originally published in the Sun.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Getting kids to read more is crucial to how they develop \u2013 so I\u2019m delighted to support Save the Children\u2019s <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.readongeton.org.uk\/\">Read On. Get On.<\/a> campaign. Their research says that just 10 minutes of reading a day makes a real difference.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/policies\/raising-the-achievement-of-disadvantaged-children\/supporting-pages\/pupil-premium\">Pupil Premium<\/a> is also helping schools improve literacy amongst the poorest children, and we have strengthened the requirement for new teachers to understand the theory and teaching of phonics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Everyone can help kids read more.
