{"id":48803,"date":"2014-10-16T08:30:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-16T08:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=fd766170255ff187747ac5a15b3b946b"},"modified":"2014-10-16T08:30:00","modified_gmt":"2014-10-16T08:30:00","slug":"press-release-200000-new-affordable-homes-show-success-of-our-long-term-economic-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=48803","title":{"rendered":"Press release: 200,000 new affordable homes show success of our long-term economic plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>More than 200,000 new affordable homes have been provided in England since April 2010, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/statistics\/affordable-housing-supply-in-england-2013-to-2014\">new figures<\/a> published today (16 October 2014).<\/p>\n<p>Housing Minister Brandon Lewis welcomed the figures as a \u201cclear sign\u201d of how the government\u2019s long-term economic plan was working, with new affordable homes being provided \u201cin every corner of the country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This includes the government\u2019s <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.homesandcommunities.co.uk\/ourwork\/affordable-homes-programme-2015-18\">Affordable Homes Programme<\/a>: already, 132,000 of the 170,000 homes planned through the programme have been provided, thanks to \u00a319.5 billion public and private funding being invested.<\/p>\n<p>It means that since April 2010, 204,000 new affordable homes have been provided.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, between 1997 and 2010 the number of social rented housing homes dropped by 420,000.<\/p>\n<p>New figures published today also show how thousands of social housing tenants who previously were locked out of home ownership are now exercising their <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/righttobuy.communities.gov.uk\/do-i-have-the-right-to-buy\/\">Right to Buy<\/a> thanks to the reinvigorated scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Since April 2010, 31,500 households have taken up their Right to Buy \u2013 including 22,600 council tenants and 8,900 housing associations with the preserved Right to Buy.<\/p>\n<p>But of these, over three quarters \u2013 24,100 &#8211; were able to do so since April 2012 when the increased discounts were introduced in the reinvigorated scheme.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, only 7,000 households were able to take up their Right to Buy between 2008 and 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Housing Minister Brandon Lewis said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Today\u2019s figures are a clear sign of the government\u2019s long-term economic plan in action, with affordable homes being delivered across England.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2010 we\u2019ve delivered 204,000 new affordable homes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">And, thanks to our reinvigorated Right to Buy, social housing tenants who once saw home ownership as being out of reach are now getting their chance to take their first steps onto the property ladder.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"affordable-homes-provided-across-the-country\">Affordable homes provided across the country<\/h3>\n<p>The <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.homesandcommunities.co.uk\/ourwork\/affordable-homes-programme-2015-18\">Affordable Homes Programme<\/a> includes social rented homes, affordable rented homes and affordable home ownership schemes, and is a key part of the government\u2019s long-term economic plan.
