{"id":49038,"date":"2014-10-21T11:09:09","date_gmt":"2014-10-21T11:09:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=2f0e94c2d4929914071b73334652ff18"},"modified":"2014-10-21T11:09:09","modified_gmt":"2014-10-21T11:09:09","slug":"news-story-tax-avoidance-demands-top-250m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=49038","title":{"rendered":"News story: Tax avoidance demands top \u00a3250m"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Financial Secretary to the Treasury, David Gauke, today told <abbr title=\"Members of Parliament\">MPs<\/abbr> scrutinising the National Insurance Contributions Bill that over 600 Accelerated Payment notices had been sent since late August.<\/p>\n<p>Despite recipients having 90 days to pay the tax demanded in the notices, avoidance scheme users have already begun to contact <abbr title=\"HM Revenue and Customs\">HMRC<\/abbr> and to arrange to make payments, covering over \u00a325 million of disputed tax. <\/p>\n<p>Many more users are also choosing to contact <abbr title=\"HM Revenue and Customs\">HMRC<\/abbr> about settling their tax affairs rather than wait to receive an Accelerated Payment notice.<\/p>\n<p>Financial Secretary to the Treasury David Gauke said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Accelerated Payments are changing the economics of avoidance by removing the cash-flow advantage that avoidance scheme users have had until now. It is only fair that those who use avoidance schemes should have to pay their tax upfront, like the vast majority of other taxpayers who don\u2019t try to shirk their responsibilities.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jennie Granger, Director General of Enforcement and Compliance, <abbr title=\"HM Revenue and Customs\">HMRC<\/abbr>, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\"><abbr title=\"HM Revenue and Customs\">HMRC<\/abbr> is making good progress in tackling marketed avoidance as today\u2019s figures illustrate.
