{"id":49468,"date":"2014-10-30T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-30T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=3ab1fea1f0816cbbbf26d197ede561dc"},"modified":"2014-10-30T10:00:00","modified_gmt":"2014-10-30T10:00:00","slug":"press-release-new-charity-commission-board-member-mike-ashley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=49468","title":{"rendered":"Press release: New Charity Commission board member: Mike Ashley"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Minister for the Cabinet Office, Francis Maude, has announced a new appointment to the board of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/charity-commission\">Charity Commission for England and Wales<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Ashley has been appointed Charity Commission board member with responsibility for chairing the Commission\u2019s Audit and Risk Committee.<\/p>\n<p>His other current appointments include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee, Barclays<\/li>\n<li>Vice Chair, European Financial Reporting Advisory Group\u2019s Technical Expert Group<\/li>\n<li>Non-Executive Director for Government Internal Audit Agency<\/li>\n<li>Member, HM Treasury\u2019s Audit Committee<\/li>\n<li>Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales\u2019 Ethics Standards Committee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mike was formerly Head of Quality and Risk Management, KPMG Europe LLP and has more than 20 years\u2019 experience as an audit partner for several large financial services groups (most recently HSBC Holdings and Standard Chartered PLC) and for the Bank of England.<\/p>\n<p>In announcing the appointment, Francis Maude said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Mike Ashley\u2019s experience of audit and risk management will help the Charity Commission\u2019s board as it continues to strengthen the regulator\u2019s effectiveness and protect public trust and confidence in charities.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>William Shawcross, Charity Commission Chairman said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I am delighted to welcome Mike Ashley to our board and look forward to working with him. Mr Ashley brings very considerable skills and experience that will help us continue to strengthen our regulatory approach.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"background\">Background<\/h2>\n<p>Mike Ashley will be appointed for a 3-year term and will take up his post on 1 November 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The recruitment followed the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/publicappointmentscommissioner.independent.gov.uk\/the-code-of-practice\/\">Commissioner for Public Appointments Code of Practice<\/a>, and its principles of fairness, merit and openness. The Code of Practice requires the disclosure of relevant and declarable political activity.
