{"id":49765,"date":"2014-11-05T15:54:00","date_gmt":"2014-11-05T15:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=9873c4ff225fe87c13cb1c151805081b"},"modified":"2014-11-05T15:54:00","modified_gmt":"2014-11-05T15:54:00","slug":"news-story-views-on-use-of-remaining-english-channel-cod-quota-sought","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=49765","title":{"rendered":"News story: Views on use of remaining English Channel cod quota sought"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Marine Management Organisation (<abbr title=\"Marine Management Organisation\">MMO<\/abbr>) is seeking industry\u2019s views on helping the English fishing fleet to maximise its uptake of quota for cod in the eastern English Channel (VIId). <\/p>\n<p>It has published the <span class=\"attachment inline\" id=\"attachment_774799\"><br \/>\n  <a href=\"\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/371386\/Cod_VIID_in_year_reallocation_consultation_05112014.pdf\">consultation document (cod VIId)<\/a><br \/>\n  (<span class=\"type\"><abbr title=\"Portable Document Format\">PDF<\/abbr><\/span>, <span class=\"file-size\">218KB<\/span>, <span class=\"page-length\">6 pages<\/span>)<br \/>\n<\/span> in which it sets out a number of questions and options including the in-year reallocation of quota within the English fishing fleet. The document also explains work to seek extra quota for the UK from other EU member states. <\/p>\n<p>Cod in area VIId tends to be a winter fishery with highest landings from January to March and October to December each year. Due to the English under 10 metre pool nearing their quota limit for 2014 the fishery is currently at risk of closure to under 10 metre vessels, with the <abbr title=\"Marine Management Organisation\">MMO<\/abbr> accordingly reducing their catch limit for November to 250kg. <\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Marine Management Organisation\">MMO<\/abbr> believes the English under ten metre pool are the group most likely to catch the remaining quota, having caught 59 percent of the total landed by the English fleet so far.
