{"id":49923,"date":"2014-11-07T17:04:31","date_gmt":"2014-11-07T17:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=1b18048f671e82da6b2ebf36c7bf7ec9"},"modified":"2014-11-07T17:04:31","modified_gmt":"2014-11-07T17:04:31","slug":"news-story-autism-statutory-guidance-consultation-launched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=49923","title":{"rendered":"News story: Autism statutory guidance consultation launched"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The government is seeking views on proposed new statutory guidance to local authorities and NHS organisations, to support the implementation of \u2018Think Autism\u2019, the update to the 2010 adult autism strategy.  <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/consultations\/adult-autism-strategy-guidance-update\">consultation<\/a> looks at issues including staff training, identification and diagnosis of autism in adults and the planning of services, preventative support and safeguarding and employment for adults with autism.   <\/p>\n<p>Responses are invited from a wide range of people and groups, including adults with autism, families and carers, health and social care organisations that  plan, commission and provide services for adults with autism and their families. <\/p>\n<h3 id=\"autism-innovation-projects\">Autism innovation projects<\/h3>\n<p>Forty two  projects will  receive a share of the \u00a31 million Autism Innovation Fund, which was announced in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/think-autism-an-update-to-the-government-adult-autism-strategy\">Think Autism<\/a>. The 6-month projects include: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>helping young people with life after school<\/li>\n<li>a course to help people with autism to manage their money<\/li>\n<li>a local \u2018autism friends\u2019 programme<\/li>\n<li>using IT in imaginative ways to help reduce anxiety<\/li>\n<li>supporting people with autism into work and apprenticeships  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The projects, which were chosen from more than 350 applications, are designed to be replicated elsewhere.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"funding-for-local-authorities\">Funding for local authorities<\/h3>\n<p>A grant of \u00a318.5k capital funding is being made available by the Department of Health to each local authority to make local areas more autism-friendly. This could include improving  buildings or buying relevant equipment. Local authorities will need to work with their local autism  partners to agree how best to use the grant<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"work-on-autism-awareness\">Work on autism awareness<\/h3>\n<p>The <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.autism-alliance.org.uk\/\">Autism Alliance UK<\/a> has been selected to raise national awareness of autism and will receive up to \u00a3200K of funding over the next few months.
