{"id":50398,"date":"2014-11-18T12:42:00","date_gmt":"2014-11-18T12:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=f33699be518ffbcbb4c0b928f51b1a12"},"modified":"2014-11-18T12:42:00","modified_gmt":"2014-11-18T12:42:00","slug":"press-release-taking-pollution-out-of-our-power-stations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=50398","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Taking pollution out of our power stations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Minister of State for Energy, Matthew Hancock, today signed an agreement with Canada to work together on research and knowledge sharing for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) &#8211; a technology which dramatically reduces carbon emissions.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/uk-canada-joint-statement-on-carbon-capture-and-storage-ccs\">Joint Statement<\/a> identifies how the UK and Canada will work together on research and innovation cooperation, knowledge sharing and international engagement and builds on the work both countries already undertake in increasing the use of low carbon technologies.<\/p>\n<p>CCS has the potential to be one of the most cost effective technologies for decarbonisation of the UK\u2019s power, enabling us to keep fossil fuels (coal and gas) in the UK\u2019s electricity mix. If developed CCS would reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and store it deep underground. CCS projects are also important contributors to the UK\u2019s growth \u2013 high quality, high value and high expertise. <\/p>\n<p>Matthew Hancock said: \u201cCarbon Capture and Storage could help us tackle climate change. I welcome the fact that the UK and Canada will be working together to advance the technology.
