The UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES<\/abbr>) today welcomed skills minister Nick Boles<\/a>\u2019 announcement that that the Education and Training Foundation<\/a> is to undertake a review of maths and English qualifications.<\/p>\n

The review will work with employers to consider the best ways to achieve and accredit maths and English skills in ways that employers recognise and respect. <\/p>\n

Commenting, UKCES<\/abbr> chief executive Michael Davis said: <\/p>\n

\u2018Involving employers in the decisions about the design, delivery and assessment of qualifications is crucial to ensure that qualifications line up with what employers really want. And it\u2019s vital to get this right with English and maths – employers value these skills highly, with 57% telling us they are significant or critical when they recruit new staff, according to our most recent survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2018This review will help us to understand the most effective ways of delivering and assessing these important standards so that they work for learners, employers, and the economy as a whole.<\/p>\n

\u2018We are committed to working with the Education and Training Foundation to support the engagement of employers and other partners in the review process.\u2019<\/p>\n
