This includes briefing business delegations, joint webinars with <abbr title=\"Department for International Trade\">DIT<\/abbr> and local trade associations<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>liaise with host governments and stakeholders about local and international <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> frameworks \/ environment<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"contact-details\">Contact details<\/h3>\n<h3 id=\"desmond-tan-south-east-asia\">Desmond Tan: South East Asia<\/h3>\n<p>Joined <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr>: April 2018<\/p>\n<p>Career history:<br \/>\nPrior to joining the High Commission, Desmond was a Senior Assistant Director with the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (<abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office of Singapore\">IPOS<\/abbr>). In his five years at <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office of Singapore\">IPOS<\/abbr>, Desmond was deeply involved in <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> projects spanning diverse portfolios such as policy and planning, industry engagement and promotion, and capabilities development. Prior to joining the British Embassy in Beijing, he was Director responsible for the <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> Centre at the EU Chamber of Commerce in Seoul, South Korea. He speaks fluent Mandarin, and has been living and working in the region for nine years.<\/p>\n<p>Focus in China: The Chinese <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> framework is fast developing, and the UK is a key international partner. Tom, and his policy team in Beijing, provide direct support to UK companies with concerns across the <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> spectrum, particularly in supporting enforcement outcomes. He also works closely with a number of Chinese government agencies on <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr>, to share UK expertise and best practice. She was formerly Director of Marketing &amp; Business Development for ACE Aceleratech start-up accelerator in Brazil and Latin America and worked on Deloitte\u2019s German-Brazilian Desk. Most recently she worked for the Department for International Trade (formerly UKTI) of the British Government.<\/p>\n<p>Focus in Brazil: Assisting UK companies that have <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> issues in Brazil and working closely with Government to ensure that there is a strong <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> framework. This includes outreach with both officials and business, highlighting the benefits of a strong <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> system. She is a qualified <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> lawyer with an LL.M in Intellectual Property from the University of New Hampshire.<\/p>\n<p>Focus in India: Having practiced law in India since 2008 and worked with leading law firms, Shilpi has developed a solid grasp of both Indian <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> issues.
