{"id":50660,"date":"2014-11-24T17:19:06","date_gmt":"2014-11-24T17:19:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=51dbce5b0871adb3bddc4ddd529c498b"},"modified":"2014-11-24T17:19:06","modified_gmt":"2014-11-24T17:19:06","slug":"press-release-uk-government-pushing-ahead-with-wales-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=50660","title":{"rendered":"Press release: UK Government pushing ahead with Wales Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Welsh Secretary Stephen Crabb and Wales Office Minister Baroness Randerson today (24 November) welcomed the Wales Bill passing through the House of Lords as an important milestone towards creating a lasting and robust devolution settlement.<\/p>\n<p>The Bill will devolve a range of tax and borrowing powers to Wales including landfill tax, stamp duty land tax and, subject to a referendum, some income tax.<\/p>\n<p>It had its third reading in the Lords today where the UK Government\u2019s amendments to give the power to the Welsh Assembly to determine whether 16 and 17 year-olds should have the right to vote in an income tax referendum were also approved.<\/p>\n<p>The Bill is expected to reach Royal Assent in the New Year once it is has been debated in the House of Commons.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"stephen-crabb-said\">Stephen Crabb said:<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The UK government is pushing ahead with the Wales Bill and today\u2019s reading in the House of Lords is an important milestone towards creating a lasting and robust devolution settlement for Wales.<\/p>\n<p>The Bill will provide the Welsh Government with a powerful incentive to grow the Welsh economy and strengthen their financial accountability and transparency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Once the Bill has been enacted I want the Welsh Government to call an income tax referendum and seize the new powers being offered as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"baroness-randerson-said\">Baroness Randerson said:<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The Wales Bill will mean big changes for everyone in Wales with more local decisions over how taxes are spent and more powers over how much Wales borrows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">In devolving these powers we are giving the Welsh Government the tools to help build a stronger economy and fairer society in Wales.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Tomorrow (25 November) Mr Crabb MP will lead the second in a series of meetings with Westminster leaders from the main political parties in Wales on agreeing the best way forward for Welsh devolution.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Crabb set out his vision for devolution in Wales in a speech at the Institute of Welsh Affairs earlier this month.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p>Read Mr Crabb\u2019s speech <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/speeches\/secretary-of-state-stephen-crabb-sets-out-long-term-vision-on-devolution\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stephen Crabb and Baroness Jenny Randerson welcome Wales Bill passing through House of Lords.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/50660"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=50660"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/50660\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=50660"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=50660"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=50660"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
