{"id":50784,"date":"2014-11-26T15:31:00","date_gmt":"2014-11-26T15:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=6639a2054e5dfeb55f4d257fc8e41fc5"},"modified":"2015-03-11T14:59:04","modified_gmt":"2015-03-11T14:59:04","slug":"news-story-dvla-reminds-customers-of-new-refund-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=50784","title":{"rendered":"News story: DVLA reminds customers of new refund rules"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Updated:<\/em> Link to vehicle tax refunds section added.<\/p>\n<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Since 1 October 2014, you  no longer need to make a separate application on a V14 for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/vehicle-tax-refund\">refund of vehicle tax<\/a>.   <abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency\">DVLA<\/abbr>  automatically issues a vehicle tax refund when a notification is received from the registered keeper that the:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>vehicle has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/notifying-dvla-if-you-sell-your-vehicle\">sold<\/a> or transferred <\/li>\n<li>vehicle has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/scrapped-and-written-off-vehicles\">scrapped<\/a> at an Authorised Treatment Facility<\/li>\n<li>vehicle has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/taking-vehicles-out-of-uk\">exported<\/a> <\/li>\n<li>vehicle has been removed from the road and the person on the vehicle register has made a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/sorn-statutory-off-road-notification\">Statutory Off Road Notification<\/a> (<abbr title=\"Statutory Off Road Notification\">SORN<\/abbr>)<\/li>\n<li>registered keeper has changed the tax class on the vehicle to an exempt duty tax class<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Customers should ensure that the dates of acquisition and\/or disposal provided on the notification via the vehicle registration certificate (V5C or logbook), V5C\/2 and V5C\/3 are current and accurate. Incorrect information will affect the amount of refund calculated.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"taxing-on-behalf-of-a-new-keeper\">Taxing on behalf of a new keeper<\/h3>\n<p>Motor traders are asked to ensure that if they tax a vehicle on behalf of a new keeper, the V5C\/2 should be used at the point when sale is agreed. Details of the new keeper should be completed on the V5C and sent to <abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency\">DVLA<\/abbr>. The V5C\/2 should be passed to the new keeper.<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency\">DVLA<\/abbr> also suggest that motor traders may want to remove existing tax discs from vehicle windscreens to help new keepers understand that vehicle tax is no longer transferrable and must be taxed before being used on the road. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DVLA no longer accepts applications for a vehicle tax refund from customers using a V14 form.
