{"id":51181,"date":"2014-12-04T15:56:00","date_gmt":"2014-12-04T15:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=566e11defdbd82f16317b1c076b6b58d"},"modified":"2014-12-04T15:56:00","modified_gmt":"2014-12-04T15:56:00","slug":"news-story-patrick-mcloughlin-visits-a1-north-of-newcastle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=51181","title":{"rendered":"News story: Patrick McLoughlin visits A1 north of Newcastle"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Hot on the heels of Monday\u2019s announcement of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/major-roads-investment-in-the-north-east-and-yorkshire\">upgrades to the A1<\/a> as part of the government\u2019s \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/biggest-upgrade-to-roads-in-a-generation\">Road investment strategy<\/a>\u2019, Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin visited the north east today (4 December 2014) to meet representatives of the Dual the A1 campaign, the North East Combined Authority, and Northumberland County Council, and discuss next steps and wider transport issues for the region.<\/p>\n<p>Under the road investment strategy unveiled on 1 December 2014, north east of England and Yorkshire together are to benefit from 18 new schemes worth around \u00a32.3 billion, creating an estimated 1,500 construction jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick McLoughlin said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Upgrading the north east\u2019s transport links is a key part of the government\u2019s long term economic plan.<\/p>\n<p>The people of Newcastle and the north east have been waiting a considerable time for the A1 to be dualled &#8211; \u200enearly 80 years, in fact.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The \u2018Road investment strategy\u2019 I announced on Monday gives the scheme its long overdue go-ahead.
