{"id":51492,"date":"2014-12-11T13:31:13","date_gmt":"2014-12-11T13:31:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=3fd5db378d356d57806e88e97d82e0ee"},"modified":"2014-12-11T13:31:13","modified_gmt":"2014-12-11T13:31:13","slug":"statement-to-parliament-uk-cyber-security-strategy-statement-on-progress-3-years-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=51492","title":{"rendered":"Statement to Parliament: UK Cyber Security Strategy: statement on progress 3 years on"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>In November 2011 we published the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/cyber-security-strategy\">UK Cyber Security Strategy<\/a> and each year since then I have presented an annual report to Parliament on progress against the Strategy\u2019s objectives.  I am pleased to present the third of these reports to both Houses today alongside this statement.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p>Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/national-cyber-security-strategy-2014-progress-and-forward-plans\">National Cyber Security Strategy 2014: progress and forward plans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Cyber Security Strategy set out the Government\u2019s vision of \u201ca vibrant, resilient and secure cyberspace\u201d and set out 4 objectives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>making the UK one of the most secure places in the world to do business in cyberspace<\/li>\n<li>making the UK more resilient to cyber attack and better able to protect our interests in cyberspace<\/li>\n<li>helping shape an open, vibrant and stable cyberspace that supports open societies<\/li>\n<li>building the UK\u2019s cyber security knowledge, skills and capability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To support the Strategy we put in place a National Cyber Security Programme backed by \u00a3860 million of investment to 2016. Through the Programme the government is working to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>further deepen our national sovereign capability to detect and defeat high-end threats<\/li>\n<li>ensure law enforcement has the skills and capabilities needed to tackle cyber crime and maintain the confidence needed to do business on the Internet<\/li>\n<li>ensure critical UK systems and networks are robust and resilient<\/li>\n<li>improve cyber awareness and risk management amongst UK business<\/li>\n<li>ensure members of the public know what they can do to protect themselves, and are demanding good cyber security in the products and services they consume<\/li>\n<li>bolster cyber security research and education, so we have the knowledge and expertise to keep pace with this fast-moving issue into the medium-term<\/li>\n<li>work with international partners to bear down on havens for cybercrime and build capacity, and to help shape international dialogue to promote an open, secure and vibrant cyberspace<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We have made significant strides towards all these goals this year and throughout the course of the Programme\u2019s existence. The long-term economic plan of this government continues to make the UK one of the most secure places globally for cyber innovation and commerce. Notable highlights from this year include the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/uk-launches-first-national-cert\">inauguration of the new <abbr title=\"Computer Emergency Response Team\">CERT-UK<\/abbr> (Computer Emergency Response Team)<\/a> which coordinates our national response to significant cyber incidents. <abbr title=\"Computer Emergency Response Team\">CERT-UK<\/abbr> has played a significant role already in protecting the Commonwealth Games and the NATO Summit in Wales from cyber threats.  The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/policies\/keeping-the-uk-safe-in-cyberspace\/supporting-pages\/setting-up-a-national-cyber-crime-unit\">National Cyber Crime Unit<\/a> has led global law enforcement operations in conjunction with the FBI and other counterparts to target cyber criminals. We have also introduced a new scheme, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/cyber-essentials-scheme-overview\">Cyber Essentials<\/a>, which sets a basic standard for cyber security for all organisations in the UK.
