Public Health England (<abbr title=\"Public Health England\">PHE<\/abbr>) and the National Travel Health Network and Centre (<abbr title=\"National Travel Health Network and Centre\">NaTHNaC<\/abbr>) have published a health and safety <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nathnac.org\/pro\/factsheets\/pdfs\/Cruise_PHE.pdf\">factsheet<\/a> for UK travellers planning a cruise this winter.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"top-tips\">Top tips<\/h2>\n<p>Before your trip:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>see your <abbr title=\"General practitioner (family doctor)\">GP<\/abbr>, nurse, or travel clinic well in advance of your cruise<\/li>\n<li>make sure you have adequate travel health insurance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While on board:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>eat and drink sensibly: follow good food and water hygiene and drink plenty of water in hot conditions<\/li>\n<li>wash your hands frequently<\/li>\n<li>be safe: watch out for accidents, slips and trips<\/li>\n<li>be SunSmart: protect your skin from the sun <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After your trip;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>on your return if you feel unwell, see your <abbr title=\"General practitioner (family doctor)\">GP<\/abbr> immediately<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dr Jane Jones, a travel health expert at <abbr title=\"Public Health England\">PHE<\/abbr>, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Holidays should be an enjoyable break from the normal routine of life, and to ensure a trip is free from health troubles all travellers need to be aware of potential health risks and take sensible precautions to stay well. Pre-travel medical advice should ideally be sought from a <abbr title=\"General practitioner (family doctor)\">GP<\/abbr> or a travel clinic at least 6 weeks before travel, but it is never too late to seek advice, even for last minute holidays.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Dipti Patel, joint director at <abbr title=\"National Travel Health Network and Centre\">NaTHNaC<\/abbr>, which is commissioned by <abbr title=\"Public Health England\">PHE<\/abbr>, said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We strongly advise travellers to discuss their particular travel health requirements with their <abbr title=\"General practitioner (family doctor)\">GP<\/abbr> or travel clinic to ensure they are adequately protected, including being up to date with routine vaccinations, as well as any additional ones that may be appropriate. Travellers can refer to <abbr title=\"National Travel Health Network and Centre\">NaTHNaC<\/abbr>\u2019s website for <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nathnac.org\/ds\/map_world.aspx\">general travel health advice and for country specific information<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A winter break can be relaxing, exciting, fun and a tonic against the long cold months before spring; it is no wonder that they are so popular.
