{"id":52200,"date":"2015-01-06T18:47:48","date_gmt":"2015-01-06T18:47:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=d4a6eb9fbf613d98653e9f813cebab54"},"modified":"2015-01-06T18:47:48","modified_gmt":"2015-01-06T18:47:48","slug":"government-response-nhs-accident-and-emergency-figures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=52200","title":{"rendered":"Government response: NHS accident and emergency figures"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The weekly A&amp;E figures for the weeks ending December 21 and December 28 2014 have been published by <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/statistics\/statistical-work-areas\/ae-waiting-times-and-activity\">NHS England,<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the 2 week period, compared with the same period in 2013:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>there were 849,800 attendances at A&amp;E, up by nearly 70,000 from 780,700 <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>761,700 patients were seen in under 4 hours, compared to 749,000<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>there were 162,700 emergency admissions via A&amp;E, compared to 152,100<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the Autumn Statement the Chancellor set out details of a multi-billion pound funding package for the NHS to begin implementing the \u2018NHS Five Year Forward View\u2019. This includes \u00a31.95 billion for frontline NHS services to be included in the baseline for 2015\/16. <\/p>\n<p>This year, the NHS\u2019s winter preparations started earlier than ever, and the government supported this by providing \u00a3700 million \u2014 \u00a3300million more than last year \u2014 in extra funding.<\/p>\n<p>The funding will be spent according to local need, but could pay for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>up to 1,000 extra doctors and 2,000 extra nurses across England<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>up to 2000 additional NHS staff, including physiotherapists, social workers and occupational therapists<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>up to 2,500 extra beds both in acute hospitals and also in the community sector<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>over \u00a325 million will go towards increasing access to GPs, including later and weekend appointments<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>\u00a350 million will help ambulance services maintain or improve response times for emergency cases<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>\u00a3250 million will support an extra 100,000 operations so people can get seen quicker and before they need to be admitted as an emergency case.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A Department of Health spokesperson said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We know the NHS is busier than ever before, which is why we\u2019ve given the NHS a record \u00a3700m this winter for more doctors, nurses and beds.
