{"id":52320,"date":"2015-01-09T09:30:00","date_gmt":"2015-01-09T09:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=e128b4af056e310efaea82bd5cf22bb3"},"modified":"2015-01-09T09:30:00","modified_gmt":"2015-01-09T09:30:00","slug":"news-story-uk-knowledge-landscape-tool-launches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=52320","title":{"rendered":"News story: UK knowledge landscape tool launches"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Council for Science and Technology\">CST<\/abbr> has launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/uk-knowledge-landscape\">project<\/a> to understand better how the UK\u2019s research community defines itself and the links that exist between research disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers can visit <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ukknowledgelandscape.co.uk\">www.ukknowledgelandscape.co.uk<\/a> and provide information about themselves (such as: position, research interests and collaborators), their perceptions of how their research areas fit within the landscape of connected disciplines and the main pieces of research infrastructure in their areas of expertise.<\/p>\n<p>Government Chief Scientific Advisor, Sir Mark Walport, said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The knowledge landscape tool is an exciting and exceptional approach to developing a clear overview of science research in the UK. This will allow the research community to build a stronger and evidence base for science.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><abbr title=\"Council for Science and Technology\">CST<\/abbr> co-chair Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell said:  <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The Council for Science and Technology places a high priority on maintaining and developing the UK\u2019s excellence in research. We believe this crowdsourcing project will help us build a clearer picture of what the UK needs to do to secure its lead. I hope that as many working researchers as possible will take some time to contribute.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Once a sufficiently large number of users have submitted their views, partial statistical analysis will be used to generate a \u2018consensus view\u2019 of how disciplines connect with and rely on each other.
