{"id":53216,"date":"2015-02-02T10:00:05","date_gmt":"2015-02-02T10:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=cada533e105e6b0558855d291f457707"},"modified":"2015-02-02T10:00:05","modified_gmt":"2015-02-02T10:00:05","slug":"press-release-social-security-advisory-committee-membership-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=53216","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Social Security Advisory Committee membership changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>On 4 August 2014 the Minister for Welfare Reform, Lord Freud, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/new-members-of-the-social-security-advisory-committee-announced\">announced that Rachael Badger had been appointed<\/a> as a member of the Social Security Advisory Committee (<abbr title=\"Social Security Advisory Committee\">SSAC<\/abbr>). <\/p>\n<p>Paul Gray, the committee\u2019s Chair, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The committee will greatly miss the wisdom and experience that Keith Faulkner brought to its work, but we have a strong successor in Rachael Badger. Rachael will bring valuable expertise and insight to the committee and I am looking forward to working with her.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Taking up her position on the committee, Rachael Badger said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I\u2019m delighted to join the committee. The design of the social security system is full of important and difficult choices, and the committee\u2019s expert, impartial advice is essential to ensure that those decisions are as well-informed as possible.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Rachael Badger has been the Head of Policy Research for Families, Welfare and Work at Citizens Advice since 2013. Prior to that Rachael was a civil servant, and had a variety of roles within both the Department for Work and Pensions and HM Treasury between 2003 and 2013.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"more-information\">More information<\/h2>\n<p><abbr title=\"Social Security Advisory Committee\">SSAC<\/abbr> is an independent advisory body of the Department for Work and Pensions. The committee\u2019s role is to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>give advice on social security issues<\/li>\n<li>scrutinise and report on social security regulations (including tax credits) <\/li>\n<li>consider and advise on any matters referred to it by the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions or the Northern Ireland Department for Social Development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/publicappointmentscommissioner.independent.gov.uk\/\">Commissioner for Public Appointments<\/a> regulates all appointments made by the Secretary of State to <abbr title=\"Social Security Advisory Committee\">SSAC<\/abbr>. All such appointments are made in accordance with the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/publicappointmentscommissioner.independent.gov.uk\/the-code-of-practice\/\">Code of Practice<\/a> published by the commissioner. The code is based on 3 core principles \u2013 merit, openness and fairness. <\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"Social Security Advisory Committee\">SSAC<\/abbr> Members receive a daily fee of \u00a3256.80, for a time commitment of around 2 days a month. Members are appointed for a period of 3 years.<\/p>\n<p>The committee\u2019s Chair is Paul Gray. Its membership comprises: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>John Andrews<\/li>\n<li>Rachael Badger<\/li>\n<li>Adele Baumgardt<\/li>\n<li>John Ditch<\/li>\n<li>Colin Godbold<\/li>\n<li>Chris Goulden<\/li>\n<li>Jim McCormick<\/li>\n<li>Gr\u00e1inne McKeever<\/li>\n<li>Matthew Oakley<\/li>\n<li>Seyi Obakin<\/li>\n<li>Judith Paterson<\/li>\n<li>Nicola Smith <\/li>\n<li>Diana Whitworth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Colin Godbold\u2019s second 3-year term as a committee member commences on 1 February 2015.
