This is forecast to reach \u00a350 to 60 billion per annum by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Universities, Science and Cities Minister Greg Clark said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The Precision Medicine Catapult is a testament to the UK\u2019s strength in the life sciences sector and our commitment to ensuring the UK takes the lead in this emerging area. Richard Barker\u2019s expertise and experience make him an ideal candidate to drive forward this important addition to our catapult network.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Richard Barker said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I\u2019m delighted to be given the opportunity to build a high-talent team to drive forward the UK\u2019s position in precision medicine \u2013 taking full advantage of a wide range of investments already made. I\u2019m determined that the UK be among the leaders in forging what is, in many ways, the future of medicine.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"technology-excellence-centres\">Technology excellence centres<\/h2>\n<p>Richard will help Innovate UK find a home for the new <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.catapult.org.uk\/precision-medicine\/\">Precision Medicine Catapult<\/a> which is already generating significant interest from leading UK universities and hospitals. It will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>simplify and speed up precision medicine product development and implementation<\/li>\n<li>help build partnerships between different therapeutic, diagnostic and informatics players in the sector<\/li>\n<li>support existing precision medicine companies and create new companies<\/li>\n<li>attract inward investment from global life science companies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is is one of two new Catapults set to open this year, bringing the total to 9.
